Why I LOVE / My 2014 Book List

Can I just tell you how much I love Really, this company has changed my life! They are an company. If you are not familiar with, it is an online subscription for books you can listen to. You can listen to books on your smart phone or mobile device. There are different levels of subscription. I do the one where I get one book per month. I have been a loyal member for years!

Why do I love it? Well, I like you, don't have much time to read. But I love to learn and to grow. So, I can listen in the nooks and crannies of my day. I can listen in the car, while I am putting on makeup or putting dishes away. Sometimes, I turn it on for just a few minutes. You can totally listen to the latest novel if that is your desire. But I listen to learn. To Grow. Every month, I do my best to listen to something to strengthen my life. From nutrition to leadership, from marriage to parenting. I thought I would share with you, my favorite books from 2014.

Sex Begins In The Kitchen by Dr. Kevin Lehman- Ok, kind of embarrassing that this is the first on my list. This book shows how to bring more passion to your marriage. It is not a sex book. Think about it this way. If your hubby wants to get lucky at night, he better start being sweet to you in the morning in the kitchen. Jason and I both liked the book and it got us started on a year of listening to books by Dr. Kevin Lehman

Have A New Kid By Friday by Dr. Kevin Lehman- Oh man, starting to regret this decision to share my book list for you. Talking about exposing yourself. This book is great for all parents. Wish I read it earlier. Real, practical strategies for parenting.

Necessary Endings by Henry Cloud - Loved this book and it's insight on what we need to prune in our life. We can't just keep adding more. We often need to end things to make room for what we want.

The 5 Levels of Leadership by John Maxwell - I don't want to be a boss that people are required to follow. I want to be the person that inspires and builds future leaders. John Maxwell is the expert in leadership and shares the 5 levels of leadership.

Essentialism by Greg McKeown -Loved, loved, loved this book. Would so love the opportunity to interview Greg on our Motivating Mom podcast! This is about the disciplined pursuit of less. I was inspired to read it after reading the Necessary Endings book. It's becoming clear to me that time is finite and we must use our hours on what we love most!

Way Of The Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman - This book has been around for awhile and is even a movie. What a great story! Dare I say that this book can be life changing. I found myself connecting with a spiritual strength like never before. Life has three rules: Paradox, Humor, Change. This book is a definite need to re-read for me!

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill - This has been called the granddaddy of motivational literature. It is not a light read (or listen). It's a law of success philosophy.

Insanely Simple by Ken Segall - If you love business (or love Apple), you will love this book. The author shows how simplicity is not simply a design principal at Apple, it is a philosophy. Great stories about Steve Jobs and how to "think different".

Fully Alive by Ken Davis - I did so love this one! Ken shows you how to lighten up and live! He shares his journey which will probably inspire yours! I know that I am making many choices now to live more fully alive because of this book!

Captivating by John and Stasi Eldrege - Being honest, this wasn't one of my favorite books. But I know a few friends who loved it! My take away from this book is that we need to keep our femininity. Being a woman is sacred and we do not / should not act like a man to get ahead or live in this world. We need to honor our female nature.

Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs - Jason and I listened to this one together. It did create some good conversation. The basics are that men crave respect and women crave love. Like 5 Languages Of Love (a must read book), it is trying to crack the communication code in marriage.

The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson - Wow, I'm always hesitant to share when I read nutrition books because I am cautious about an endorsement. It is my job to always be learning about health and nutrition and to learn from many different sources. I was curious to read Mark's book because he truly seems so healthy and strong in his 60's. He must be doing something right. He is the leader of the primal (paleo) health movement. While I am not jumping on the Paleo bandwagon, I believe he is right about so much of why we are unhealthy.

I read some real books (print that is) as well. Ones that I think you should add to your book list include Thrive and Why Olga Runs.
