Sharon Fisher - This Month's Motivating Mom Story

A Transformation.png

1. Tell us about yourself

My name is Sharon Fisher. I am 36 years old, stay-at-home mother of two little girls Gabrielle and Sasha. I love spending time with my husband and girls as well as our family and friends.

2. What motivated you to make a change?

My girls! Before having kids I was always at the gym and even worked for a weight loss company. Of course, working for a weight loss company helped me to achieve and maintain my goal weight, but it also helped me to help others achieve their goal.

I gained 60 pounds when i was pregnant with my first daughter, Gabrielle. I shed some of it before Sasha was born, but not enough. I told myself, "After Sasha is born I have no choice but to get back to my goal weight, and live a healthier lifestyle again." I began to work out daily again after the girls were born, but something still needed to change. I still remember the exact day it changed.

I had just finished a hard workout at Stroller Strides. It seemed like it didn't matter how hard I worked out. The harder I worked out, the harder it was to lose the extra weight. The very next day I made a decision. it was time to lose the weight. I told my Stroller Strides instructors, Jeana and Tammy, who were also my personal trainers, "I was ready. It was time. My goal was to get back to my pre-pregnancy Sharon." They told me that they would help and support me every step of the way -and, they have.

Some days have been harder then others, but knowing that I have an amazing support network between my husband and children, my family and friends, and of course my Stroller Strides family it has helped me to achieve my goals. I have lost 62 pounds with Stroller Strides and personal training. I am 5.5 pounds away from hitting my goal. It feels amazing to be back in my pre-pregnancy clothes, and even have many of them be too big!

3. What are you doing to get/stay so healthy?

A mixture of both healthy eating and exercise. I swore this time around I was not going to "diet", instead I watch my calories and portions all while eating the food I enjoy. My family enjoys dining out so I have continued to do so through the whole process. It has been hard, but I am just extra careful when we do. I also love Stroller Strides! I try to get to class 3-4 days a week, and I train 2x a week with my Stroller Strides instructors. Being accountable keeps me on track. The accountability has helped me to stay focused and true to myself.

4. It can be SO HARD to find "me" time when you are taking care of your family, how were you able to make these healthy changes and stick to them while still doing all of your other day to day duties?

I make sure that I get my workout done every morning. As long as I start my day with a healthy breakfast and a great workout, I seem to be able to make the right choices throughout the day. If I miss my workout it seems to be a much harder day. Stroller Strides makes it easier. Being able to bring my girls to class keeps me from being able to make an excuse for not being able to go. Also my girls love going! They have made friends there who they love to see. Gabrielle is in preschool and misses being able to go on a daily basis, but when she's not in school the first thing she asks is, "if she can go workout with me."

5. How do you feel now? How has this changed your life?

I feel amazing!!! I have so much more energy to do the things I love doing. I love that my girls are witnessing the healthy lifestyle that I have chosen. My self confidence is back up, and I am living everyday to the fullest. I'm no longer intimidated by the running because as I have lost the weight and become more fit I actually look forward to the challenge. Being fit has become who I am.

6. What advice do you have for other moms who want to get healthy?

Just show up! It is the first step in reaching a healthier lifestyle. It may take time, and it is not always easy, but one day it will "click" and you will be so thankful that you made the decision to show up.
