New moms experience so much, from hormonal changes to a neuro-musculosketal shifts...it is truly a challenging time! One of the main changes, and yet often NOT talked about, is the weakness of the pelvic floor muscles. While there are some highly heated talks about how, why and where pelvic floor exercises should be done, the bottom line is that the contraction of these muscles is of the utmost importance. The pelvic floor is a set of muscles not unlike any other set of muscles. Your either use it or lose it and kegels are crucial to pelvic floor engagement and restoration. Here is a start:

  • Start with stopping the flow of urine the next time you urinate to feel what it feels like to contract those muscles
  • Then commit to do so at every red light

Use it or lose it, moms! #KEGELS
